Welcome to Tuxedo Motel

Tucked away in the serene foothills of Ramapo Mountain, the Tuxedo Motel offers a welcoming retreat for travelers seeking comfort and affordability near the Appalachian Trail. With a solid rating of 4.4, this modest motel stands out for its clean, tidy rooms and a distinctly retro charm that appeals to both hikers and casual visitors alike.

Guests repeatedly praise the motel’s owner, Sal, whose nearly 50 years of dedication ensure each stay is personal and accommodating. Whether it’s handling laundry with care or guiding guests to local amenities, Sal’s warmth transforms the Tuxedo Motel from a simple lodging option into a comforting home base. This genuine hospitality resonates strongly with thru-hikers of the Appalachian Trail who find solace here after long, arduous days, even if it means a short trek or an Uber ride from the trailhead.

The property spans 10 picturesque acres bordering Sterling Forest State Park, providing a tranquil setting punctuated by a charming gazebo and a distinctive fountain that add character to the grounds. Nature lovers will appreciate proximity to outdoor activities—from hiking and wildlife spotting in the pristine forest to seasonal cultural events like the New York Renaissance Faire nearby. For those who prefer a change of pace, Woodbury Commons outlet and Tuxedo Ridge skiing are just short drives away.

Though the motel lacks on-site dining options, convenience stores and reliable delivery choices for pizza and Chinese food make mealtime easy. Free Wi-Fi and parking enhance the practical side, while air-conditioned rooms ensure comfort even in warmer months. The absence of extra frills such as a pool or fitness center is more than balanced by the motel’s inviting ambiance and attentive management.

In essence, Tuxedo Motel is more than a place to rest; it is a quietly enduring symbol of small-town hospitality. Its honest value, coupled with thoughtful touches aimed at outdoor enthusiasts, leaves a lasting impression of warmth and reliability. Guests leave not just refreshed, but connected—to the landscape, the community, and the genuine spirit of the motel itself.

I am currently hiking the Appalachian Trail and had my resupply sent to the PO right across the street. Room rate is very reasonable. The room is clean and well stocked and a little retro. The owner did my laundry for me. There's a convenience store nearby for drinks and snacks. Pizza delivery and Chinese food delivery is available. It was a bit of a hike from the trail but its quiet and secure. It's a good spot to stop.

Convenient to Harriman State Park, right on Rte 17. Rooms are comfortable and reasonably priced. Beautiful gazebo behind motel and unique fountain in front. Manager was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating.

I'm currently hiking the appalachian trail and had rain coming in so I got off trail and spent 2 nights here. All you need for your thru hike cheap for new york and pizza and Chinese delivers with a gas station right done the hill with other stuff we need. Definitely would stay here again thanks for everything.

Hiker friendly. Great price. Clean, tidy motel. Laundry was done in their professional washers/dryers in two hours. Ate pizza delivered from local restaurant. Chinese food also available.

The owner is very hiker friendly! We were section hiking the AT and needed to stop somewhere for the night. Called the day of and he had a room available for us. Had to catch an Uber to the motel as it is a few miles from the trail. Make sure to get dropped off at the top of the driveway where you’ll see the front office, otherwise you’ll have to walk a ways uphill. Room was fairly priced, clean, and stocked with everything we needed (showers were HOT). Owner took care of our laundry for us and showed us the beautiful gazebo and nice area of picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, and a grill. We were very thankful to stay here for a night after a brutal section on the AT. We ended up eating our own food but it looks like you can have pizza and Chinese food delivered.

Basic, clean rooms at an affordable price. Sal (the owner for nearly 50 years), is a super nice guy who goes out of his way to make sure every guest is happy! We've stayed here many times over the past 35 or 40 years and never been disappointed.

Hiking the AT & stopped here for the night after a rainy day. In my opinion the price is worth getting a bit off trail for. Can get take out delivered, or there’s a gas station down the hill with a deli.
